Onomie Skin Care Review
I have officially stopped complaining on a daily basis about being tired.
It’s not that I am any less immune to the effects of the state of perma-exhaustion that motherhood has foisted up on me (damn it, they’re so cute that they’re worth it, though); it’s just that I have come to accept this level of tired as The State of Things. It’s my new reality, and I’m embracing it.
What I have a little less acceptance about embracing, however, is the dark circles that come with said exhaustion.
And as many of you who’ve been hanging around this blog for a little while know, I’m always trying out new products to see what I can do to make them less, well, in-your-face.
Recently I won a contest and got to try some products from Onomie–a company that believes in simplifying beauty for women with products that function, are non-toxic, and are customizable by skin tone. Not only do these products function as makeup–as in, they cover and prime–but they also function as skincare. And they back that claim with studies, promising a “clinical … reduction in fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles with daily use over time.”
I mean–besides a solid eight hours nightly–what more could a girl ask for, right?!
Here are my thoughts, by product!
Bright Concealing Elixir
Dubbed a concealing “treatment,” this formula purports to treat dark circles over time, in addition to covering them in the short term. And Onomie says there is research backing their effectiveness, citing a “77% improvement in dark circles” after 8 weeks of use.
The consistency of this is somewhere between thin and thick. It’s a good medium–opaque upon application, but easily blended out to give a natural coverage that I found didn’t settle into the creases of my undereye area like other concealers can. Blend with your fingers or a brush. (I like to use my IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe #7 brush. Is there anything I don’t use that brush for? The answer would be no.)
And as always, apply in the inner corner and blend toward the outer corner of your eye, as well as downward, toward the corner of your nose.
This gave me good coverage all day, and didn’t get greasy as some concealers can. Even wearing it without foundation, I loved the way it blended seamlessly into my skin. (Find your shade here.)
A.C.E. Illuminating Eye Treatment
This is a highlighter of sorts, made to be applied around the outer corner of your eye for a boost of brightness. And sticking with the trend of skincare combined with makeup, this formula contains 10% Vitamin C to help treat your fine lines over time.
You can choose from three shades. I chose “Lovelace,” which is a pale pink with a hint of shimmer, which—I promise—does not appear pink on your face at all–not in the very least. Instead, it imparts a nice glow. Think of it as a little pick-me-up for your eyes that complements the (very solid) coverage of the concealer.
Powerful Priming Serum
I am loyal to my beauty product faves in the biggest way. When I find something that works, I stick with it. Then I tell everyone about it like some kind of weird product evangelist. And sometimes people look at me strangely.
I dig–and probably always will–my Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer hard, but this Onomie Powerful Priming Serum is pretty darn great in its own right. Because it contains silicone agents, it gives you that smooth feel, and it also contains a blend of antioxidants that are meant to help improve your skin over time. The consistency is on the thinner side, it’s easy to apply, and I loved the way my makeup glided on after I used this.
